Three Swiss made the cut
27.08.2022
The second round of the Omega European Masters 2022 could not be completed on Friday due to the darkness. When the tournament resumed on Saturday at 7.40 a.m. who would finish the first part of the tournament in the lead and how many Swiss players would make the cut? This year it is -3. A very high level!
In the Swiss camp, Joel Girrbach and Benjamin Rusch had already done the work (-4) on Friday to ensure their presence during the weekend. On Saturday morning, Maximilien Sturdza continued to play well by completing his second round in 67. The 22-year-old amateur from Geneva, with a total of 136 (-4), also qualified. To find three Swiss players at -4 at this stage of the competition is quite exceptional. This proves that Swiss golf is on the rise.
Alejandro Canizares in the lead
At the top of the leaderboard, the battle between Alejandro Cañizares and Thirston Lawrence turned to the advantage of the Spaniard. He made two birdies on the remaining holes on Saturday morning, while the South African only made one. At the start of the third round, the podium is made up of Alejandro Cañizares (-15), Thirston Lawrence (-13), as well as the trio formed by Englishman Matt Wallace, Spaniard Eduardo de la Riva and South African Louis de Jager (-12). The players will start exceptionally from holes 1 (10:55 am) and 10 (11:00 am), in order to make up for the delay caused by the cessation of the competition on Friday afternoon due to the risk of thunderstorms.
