British golfer Matt Wallace, who was defeated by Thriston Lawrence in a playoff in 2022, held his ground this time to secure his first victory at Crans-Montana. Tied with Alfredo Garcia-Heredia at the end of the 18 holes, the two players returned to the 18th tee for a decisive playoff hole. Ultimately, Matt Wallace emerged victorious, winning the tournament with a score of -11, ahead of Garcia-Heredia and Englishman Andrew Johnston, who finished 3rd with a score of -10.
With Cedric Gugler in 4th place heading into the final round, excitement was at its peak. It had been since 2008 that a Swiss player had finished in the top 10, following Julien Clément’s 3rd place. Gugler maintained his composure throughout the day, surpassing his previous best result at this level to secure a brilliant 4th place with a score of -8. His exceptional performance was met with enthusiastic applause, showcasing a high and consistent level of play. He joins the elite group of Swiss players who have achieved such a feat.
Despite unpredictable weather, alternating between wind, fog, rain, and bursts of sunshine, the players showed unwavering determination throughout the Omega European Masters. Yves Mittaz praised this achievement, stating, “I believe it’s unprecedented at Crans to see scores like we had.” Despite the challenges posed by the weather conditions, the golfers managed to maintain an exceptional level of play, making this edition particularly remarkable.
The Omega European Masters continues to captivate with its exceptional setting and ever-evolving infrastructure. Tournament director Yves Mittaz highlighted the progress, saying, “I believe we’ve reached a new level in terms of infrastructure and the course.” For over 12 years, the Crans-Montana course has been improving annually to meet the expectations of professional golfers. This year, despite difficult playing conditions, the enhancements, including the renovation of greens on holes 10 and 17, were widely praised.
