Bridging the gap between eSports and traditional golf in a world-class tournament
03.09.2024
Following a highly successful event last year, the Omega European Masters has once again captivated golf enthusiasts worldwide with its innovative approach to blending eSports and traditional golf. This year's tournament, held virtually on Foresight Golf simulators, offered a thrilling opportunity for players globally to engage in competitive play.
The renowned Severiano Ballesteros course at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club was meticulously replicated in tournament mode, providing an unparalleled experience for all participants. This simulator course serves as a dynamic link between eSports and the storied tradition of golf.
Participants competed on the simulated Severiano Ballesteros course from simulators located worldwide. The top three performers, Josh Oddy (England), Andreas Stjernen (Norway) and Fiorino Clerici (Switzerland), advanced to a final qualifying round. This decisive phase took place on the actual greens of Crans-sur-Sierre this Tuesday morning.
The day’s winner, Fiorino Clerici, earned their coveted wild card for the forthcoming professional competition commencing Thursday morning.
Amateurs also had the opportunity to compete in golf simulators. This innovative format, which enabled golf enthusiasts to win tickets to the prestigious UBS Gold Pro-Am competition scheduled for Wednesday, crowned Chris Wilkinson (Australia), Connor Herman (USA) and Regina Geerligs (Switzerland) as the winners of the three coveted places. This dimension of the tournament attracted more than 1,500 players from 33 different countries.
This will be Wilkinson's second appearance, having already won the OEM eSport Amateur in 2023. After a first visit to Crans-Montana, the Australian won again this year ahead of Connor Herman, an American player from Minnesota. The two men will be joined by Regina Geerligs, a Swiss player and member of Rastenmoos Golf Club.
