The leader: Scott Hend

Before the last round, at least 10 players can still come close to winning the 2016 OMEGA European Masters.  Favourites are Scott Hend (-13), Alex Noren (-12) and Richard Bland

Even before starting to discuss the summit of the leaderboard, the case of Miguel Ángel Jiménez is worth mentioning. He remains a phenomenon, an attraction for Crans-Montana. His game was certainly the most watched of the day.  However, it is not enough to be the spectators’ favourite to perform well. The Spaniard learnt his lesson by handing in a 71 card.  This average score puts him now in 33rd position (-3). On Sunday, he will play for honour.  But one can already confirm as of today that his flight will be one of the most watched on the last day.

The same observation for Danny Willett, who, once again, did not play his best game, with a round finished at par (-3 over three days). The titleholding champion already knows that he will have to hand in his red jacket. But to whom? It is difficult to give a name before the last finish. By contrast, a first big selection has been made. The Australian Scott Hend (-13), the Swede Alex Noren (-12) and the Englishman Richard Bland (-10) take the first three places in the intermediate ranking. Mikko Ilonen, Alejandro Cañizares, Andrew Johnston and Romain Langasque make it by one stroke (-9). Behind them, David Drysdale, Florian Fritsch and Richard Green have a slight hope to carry the trophy. However, in order to do that, the leaders will have to give way all at the same time.

Andrew Johnston, still in the race, is also much talked about in Crans-Montana. In addition to playing golf well, he is impressive because of his physique  (178 cm and 102 kg) and a large beard to make the most trendy of hipsters jealous. No one calls the Englishman by his name and surname, he is now known by his nickname, that he has kept since his schooldays: «The beef».
