Two time winner of the tournament Matthew Fitzpatrick will defend his title in 2019 !

We had to wait a long time, 40 years to be precise, for the Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick to equal the record of the legendary Seve Ballesteros who had victoriously defended his title in 1978.  Will he become the first player in history to claim a 3rd consecutive Omega European Masters title?  We will know on the 1st September.

Thanks to his 2 victories at the Omega European Masters (2017-2018), the young golfer from Sheffield now has 5 wins to his name since he turned professional in 2014 plus 11 Top 5 finishes.  His most prestigious victory dates back to November 2016 when he took the DP World Tour Championship title in Dubai.  He has also started 2019 in a good way, finishing 2nd at the Honma Hong Kong Open.

The former Amateur World No. 1 succeeded in transferring the excellent results to the professional level and managed to qualify for his first Ryder Cup in 2016.   He just seems to get better every year.

This young 24 year old talent adds to a very impressive list of Ryder Cup players who have already signed up for this year’s tournament including Rory McIlroy (World No.7 and winner of 4 majors), Sergio Garcia (winner of the Augusta Masters in 2017) and Tommy Fleetwood (No. 1 on the European Tour in 2017 and 2nd in 2018) – three players that made history during the most recent European victory.

Put the date in your diary - The 2019 Omega European Masters will take place from the 29th August to September 1st.
