Jean-Luc Rochat: «A courageous and visionary decision»
The Credit Suisse Silver Pro-Am traditionally launches the week of golf in Crans-Montana. Five questions for the host Jean-Luc Rochat, Head of Region Suisse Romande.
Mr. Rochat, the OMEGA European Masters is taking place for the 70th time this year. Credit Suisse has supported the tournament since 1984, which makes it the oldest sponsor. An exceptional partnership!
Absolutely. It is our main sponsorship in French-speaking Switzerland and one of the highlights of the sports year. As a bank that is active internationally, we know just how important our regional representation is. Our partnership therefore also symbolises our strong ties to Switzerland and just proves that long term success in a relationship is based on trust.
With the creation of the Credit Suisse Silver Pro-Am in 2010, the collaboration was strengthened even further.
Yes. The success of our traditional Credit Suisse Gold Pro-Am was so high that we created this additional event. The Pro-Am tournaments, like those here in Crans-Montana, are fantastic events that give use the chance to thank our customers and business partners for the fruitful collaboration and the trust that they give.
When the bank got involved with golf, the sport was still developing in Switzerland.
Yes, that's right. At the time, it was a courageous and visionary decision. In 1984, Switzerland did not have more than 30 clubs with approximately 11,000 members. Today, there are 96 clubs, with approximately 90,000 members. A remarkable fact: approximately one third of members are women. Credit Suisse is pleased that this marvelous sport has further developed and that it is actively played today.
Who will win the OMEGA European Masters 2016?
The two previous winners were Danny Willett and David Lipsky. If we follow this logic, the 2016 edition should also be won by someone from the young generation. However, as we say in our business: buy low, sell high! That is why I am betting on the triumph of an experienced player. Miguel Àngel Jiménez and Lee Westwood are two legends that still have what it takes to win.
What is your personnel objective for the Credit Suisse Silver Pro-Am?
A hole-in-one at hole number 8! Because again this year Credit Suisse will award the first hole-in-one with a kilogram of gold. However, just for the pros! All joking aside: I hope that there will be magnificent weather and that our guests as well as the pros will experience an unforgettable tournament on this exceptional course. And if, in addition, I could personally contribute to the good performance of my team, it would clearly be icing on the cake!
