Green leading after the cut
Malaysia took the spotlight on the Haut-Plateau for this 2019 edition of the Omega European Masters.
After two rounds, Gavin Green took the lead (-11). The 25-year-old was in no way one of the favorites. His regularity, a card of 65 on Thursday and one of 64 on Friday, was rewarded. None of the big names present in Crans-Montana managed to do better than him.
Gavin Green must stay strong at this stage of the tournament, being only one stroke ahead of impressive opponents such as Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood. The young Malaysian, who only went pro in 2015, will certainly lack experience in critical moments. Currently ranking 58th in the Race to Dubai, he has never won a tournament on the professional circuits.
On the other hand, Green has had a successful amateur career with 21 victories. He also became the first Malaysian to receive the Order of Merit of the Asian Tour after a remarkable 2017 season. One should mention that he also represented Malaysia at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. Graduate of the University of New Mexico, Green has Portuguese, Irish and Chinese origins.
