Images shown in 120 countries
European Tour Productions aims to please its viewers. On the Haut-Plateau, 120 people are at work to create its programmes.
Upon arrival in Crans-Montana, during this week of the OMEGA European Masters, the parking lot of the Etang Long attracts your attention right away. Thirteen trucks, and large ones as it were, are parked there. They are there for the equipment of European Tour Productions.
This British company is specialised in the production of golf images. It is present on 45 events during the year, including the Ryder Cup and TheOpen. In Crans-Montana, TV programme development mobilises 120 people: cameramen, technical images, sound technicians, 3D effects specialists, and commentators that are ready to step in for the four days of the competition. Everything is done on-site. The result is impressive and can be seen in 120 countries. Images emitted from Crans-Montana reach 428 million homes on all continents. The different programmes together represent 2814 hours of live broadcasting. Superb publicity not only for the Haut-Plateau, but also for all of the Valais. «Often, people ask me if it is more difficult to produce images in the mountains. On the contrary, it is simple. During down time, each time a camera films something, it captures a superb viewpoint», explains Russell Dawson, Producer/Director for IMG Media, company partnered with European Tour Productions.
For the anecdote, drivers of the largest trucks – professional drivers – are having a hard time on the mountain road between Sierre and the Haut-Plateau. During the tournament, they don’t get to rest, they are the ones transporting the relay antennas for portable cameras. In terms of organisation, at European Tour Productions, everything is optimised, no one is left doing nothing for long.
