Between past and future
The two events on the program this Saturday are a real bridge between youth and history.
On hole No 8, a 160-metre par 3, the Swiss juniors are honoured. Twenty-two teenagers are participating in the "Beat the Pro", a competition that is gaining more and more popularity in the major tournaments of the European Tour. The goal is to beat a pro on the first shot of hole No 8. In summary, the three pros involved in the tournament hit their first shot, then give way to a junior. The whole group walks together to the green to see which ball is closer to the flag. The junior stops at this point, while the pros sink their put. This animation concerns the last twenty-two flights of the day.
At the same time, the tournament is celebrating its 80th anniversary. Four players will go back to the beginning of the 20th century: at the end of the 3rd round of competition, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Miguel Angel Jimenez will participate in the Hickory Challenge. On hole 18, they will compete with wooden clubs, wearing ancient clothing. A show guaranteed!
