It feels really good. My last win was Madeira in 2003 and I shot a really low third round there, 60, and went into the final round with a seven or eight shot lead. I won and you are happy to win but it is funny with such as lead. Today I knew I had some guys chasing me. I got off to great start which really helped. I was trying to keep making birdies as around this course you never know what is around the corner and Sergio or Marcel could easily make a couple of birdies. My mindset was to keep on attacking and just try and make as many birdies as I could.
How did you deal with it psychologically? Since after the French Open this year I decided to fire at all the flags, within reason. Like on 18 yesterday I wasn't going to get it close so you use common sense. Just play more aggressive. Is that because previously you have been too defensive? Yes, trying to play smart. I watch the likes of Woods and Els, Vijay and Sergio and they seem to be aggressive when they can be. The ball has to be on the fairway but that allows them to go to the flags. Are you trying to fly the ball higher? On some of the pr threes. Not 11 as that was a full 6 iron but on 13 and 16 my natural ball flight is low so I tried to hit it higher and hold the greens. Good putts to start? Dead centre and that gives you confidence with you putting. Where does this take you for the future? It is trying to find a key when you are in contention, trying to find the keys to finish off these tournaments. I was getting a bit frustrated. It is nice to come out this weekend, put two good rounds together and win. It was very frustrating as I felt I was playing good golf and shooting level par at the weekend is not going to win an event. I thought I had to change my strategy. I didn't think I played that badly, just didn't score. That's why you change your strategy. You reverted back to your old swing - what was that? There have always been a few faults on swing. One is putting too much weight on my left on the back swing and the other is the transition from the backswing to the downswing I tend to get a bit narrow. After Loch Lomond I tried to address those problems, unsuccessfully. I decided to go back to what I was doing. It worked before but it was a matter of getting over the finishing post. What are the problems now? The same two things. But you watch Jim Furyk and he is a great player and manages with what he has got. Everyone has faults but you manage them the best you can and play golf. What does this do for your defence of the World Cup? I had a text from Stephen - he is in Bangkok - and I just told him to rest up and get ready for the World Cup. He is not playing much between me and the end of the year. We were both high enough in the World Rankings to qualify. Fortunately he picked me. Do you always wear sunglasses? I don't know if my eyes are over sensitive but I find it a bit bright playing golf. I just prefer to have the dark glasses on. Take them off for all my shots. Next on the schedule? Dunhill, Majorca, Volvo Masters and the World Cup. And the HSBC. That will be nice.
